Deux amis, l’un riche et l’autre pauvre, sont liés par une forte amitié. Le riche ignore la misère de son ami, qui cache sa pauvreté par dignité. Acculé par la faim, le pauvre récupère la viande d’un animal mort pour nourrir sa famille, ce qui est permis en cas d’extrême nécessité. Lors d’un repas, le fils du riche refuse de manger, révélant la vérité. Le riche, touché, prend conscience de la situation. Le conte met en lumière la solidarité, la compassion et la responsabilité morale envers autrui.
